Meet Nick

Nicholas “Nick” Giurleo is a lifelong resident of Medford.

Nick is a proud graduate of the Medford Public Schools. He attended the Brooks, then the McGlynn, and graduated valedictorian of Medford High School in 2015. He was also an active student athlete. He played youth baseball, soccer, and basketball and was on Medford High’s soccer team.

Since childhood, Nick has been known to many as “Nick G” because of the difficulty of pronouncing his last name (Jer-lay-oh). Nick comes from an Italian-American immigrant family. He owes much of his success to the hard work of his grandfathers who came to the United States shortly after World War II with nothing but worked hard and paved the way for their children and grandchildren to attend college and experience the American Dream.

After high school, Nick couldn’t get enough of Medford and decided to attend Tufts University where he studied history, international relations, and Italian. Nick graduated magna cum laude from Tufts in 2019. He wrote a thesis on using publicly-available information for political decision-making and successfully defended it with honors. He also studied law abroad for five months at the oldest university in the world in Bologna, Italy, where he directly enrolled in classes with native-speaking Italian students.

After taking a year off to work, Nick attended Boston College Law School. Nick focused his studies on litigation as well as zoning, land use, and municipal law. Nick was taught by a former city solicitor. He took another class on legal advocacy with the then Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Trial Courts. Nick also participated in a clinical program in which he was appointed a prosecutor by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Nick worked out of the Malden District Court and tried six criminal cases.

In 2023, Nick graduated from BC Law and took the Uniform Bar Exam that summer. Nick passed on the first attempt and scored in a top national percentile. He is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. Nick is a litigator and is currently employed with the top firm for medical malpractice practice in New England. Nick takes pride in fighting for just compensation for his clients who are injured by negligent healthcare providers. Nick has also practiced criminal defense and through those experiences learned invaluable lessons about the criminal justice system. Nick loves being a lawyer and standing up for “the little guy.”

Nick is a member of a number of organizations that promote the arts, culture, and conservation. This includes the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Trustees, and the Boston Athenaeum.

Nick also values community engagement. When he was in high school, he volunteered as a tutor at the West Medford Community Center. Nick currently runs a free book club for individuals in the Greater Boston Area in their twenties and thirties. Nick is also active member of his church, Saint Raphael’s in West Medford. Nick loves spending his free time in Medford. He enjoys runs along the Mystic Lakes and hiking in the Fells and Brooks Estate. Nick never passes up an opportunity to patronize Medford’s many great small businesses, be it having brunch at The Paul Revere, Dempsey’s, or Lighthouse, getting his haircut at VIP Cuts in the Square, or enjoying a nice dinner with his family at Bocelli’s or FiorItaly. His ice cream shops of choice are C.B. Scoops and Colleen’s. Don’t get him started on the library. Nick loves his visits to the Medford Public Library where he almost always has a book checked out. His favorite spot is the local history room and a long-term goal of his as a historian is to continue Charles Brooks and James Usher’s seminal History of the Town of Medford.
